Isn't it ironic that bottled water is now seen as not being environmentally friendly?
Brandon University has banned the sale of bottled water and the Students Union has asked the city do the same at municipal facilities.
The university will install more water fountains on campus. Council has commissioned a study to see if an ornamental statue, with fountain and lights, should be installed in the city hall foyer.

The U.S. government has decided it won't bankroll another moon landing and will instead, finance further exploration of the universe.
This follows a meeting the president had with our prime minister recently, after which he was overheard asking, "What planet is he on?"

The speculation on who will run, who wants to run and who shouldn't run during the next municipal election is starting to pick up.
The ideal candidate should have some of the following traits: Construction and architectural knowledge, some financial ability, extreme patience, the ability to schmooze and roll their eyes skyward, know how to use a garbage container and differentiate between a recycling bin and must have Monday nights free.

Why is it when experts talk about jobs of the future, they never mention one particular industry?
It's been around for centuries and will be around for centuries more.
No matter what high tech brings, there will always be a demand for this industry's services.
Job security is almost guaranteed.
Figure it out yet?
Sanitation engineer . . . trash man . . . waste disposal technician.
We'll always produce garbage.

The Association of Manitoba Municipalities doesn't want to meet in Brandon anymore because there aren't enough hotel rooms for the thousand-plus delegates and exhibitors who attend its annual convention.
Isn't this ironic, considering the argument several years ago was the city didn't need any new hotels and that was one of the reasons some parties fought to stop construction of the Canad Inns.
Since then, some hotels have changed hands, new ones have been built and others are on the drawing board.
Here's hoping city officials put up a good argument and convince the AMM to continue meeting here every second year.
