Odds and ends that didn't make it into other columns and I just didn't feel like thinking about more stuff to write . . . think of it as reusing and recycling. It saves brain energy or what little is left.
Canada is known for its cold winters and snow, yet all we heard about heading into the Vancouver Olympics was how warm it was and there was no snow.
If this isn't proof that governments can screw up anything they get involved in, what is?
If you thought taxes were high in Vancouver, wait until the bills for the Olympics start arriving.
Just ask any long-time Montreal resident if the Olympics are the games that keep on paying.
A lot of people are thinking and watching the Olympics. How many medals will Canada win?
Will we win a gold on home snow?
How much do they charge to have all those skates sharpened?
Why is it a skating oval instead of a circle, or figure 8?
Did someone named Robert invent the bobsled?

I watched a game show the other afternoon and I have to admit I was left shaking my head.
Why is it when a contestant has to choose between door 1, 2 or 3 they ask the audience members for advice.
Hey folks, they know just as much as you do, so just guess.
Now you are probably wondering why a semi-sophisticated, semi-intelligent guy is watching a game show. Well it was either that, a soap opera or talk show featuring some weird ailment or quasi celebrity about to tell us why they had brain surgery and had their IQ doubled to that of a door knob.
Besides, there was no city council meeting repeat broadcast to be found anywhere.
I could have started reading a book but I couldn't find one with a cover that appealed to me.
In reality I was procrastinating.
It was deadline time and I had no idea what I was going to send to my editor.
I thought about what was going on at city hall and that drew a blank (insert your city hall comment about blanks here; sometimes I like to make this column interactive.)

— Our MLAs and MPs aren’t looking after the province’s or nation’s business, so in other words things are running smoothly.
— Work is progressing smoothly on the new firehall while nothing appears to be progressing on the new police station. Think the police will get station envy?
— And finally, the world must be okay when a recent open line show spent time trying to solve that minute’s old question: How do I ripen my bananas?
I listened intently hoping someone would ask about kiwi. Oh well, that's another day.
