Dominic Hampton of Minnedosa and a few friends are shaving their heads this Friday in support of another friend who has lost her hair as a result of chemotherapy treatments for cancer.
Hampton’s friend was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in late 2009. She is a single mom with two teenage boys at home. When she was first diagnosed, she didn’t have a vehicle, so travel to Winnipeg for treatment was difficult. But the chemotherapy treatments have been successful and she recently informed Hampton that her cancer has gone into remission.
Because the Cancer Care treatment centre in Brandon will be open late in 2010, people such as Hampton’s friend and others in Westman will have easier access to cancer treatment. As a result, the hair-cutting fundraising project Friday will have all money raised go directly to the new cancer care facility in Brandon.
If anyone would like to make a donation to Hampton’s cause, she urges people to either contact her at Box 1967, Minnedosa, MB, R0J 1E0 (phone 204-867-7358) or send a cheque directly to the BRHC Foundation, 150 McTavish Ave. E., Brandon, R7A 2B3.
Hampton and her friends will have their heads shaved at 2:30 p.m. Feb. 26 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre.
