Karate Manitoba is holding its provincial tournament Feb. 27 at Shilo.
The event host will be the Japan Karate Association of Brandon and area.
Competitors from around the provincie will compete in a number of age and belt levels, including a black belt competition around 1 p.m. Saturday.
Last year, 93 competitors took part in the event at The Pas. “we know the Japan Karate Association of Brandon and area will do a bangup job in hosting what we expect will be another great tournament,” said Karate Manito a president Meron Solonynka.
The tournament begins Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in the General Strange Hall gym and runs the entire day, with athletes competing in kata (routine of self-defence moves), sparring and team kata (team of three performing self-defence moves) events.
Participants are expected from Thompson, Flin Flon, The Pas, Brandon, Rivers, Minnedosa, Killarney, Carberry, Lac du Bonnet and Winnipeg.
