Rajala is player of the month

Toni Rajala has been chosen the Wheat King Player of the Month Award winner for the month of February.

Rajala, an 18-year old right winger, a fourth round draft choice of the National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers, Rajala enters Wednesday night's game against the first place Saskatoon Blades with 25 goals and 58 points in 54 games. Only five other WHL rookies have scored more than the Finnish born Rajala this season.

During the month of February, Rajala tied Brayden Schenn for the club scoring lead with eight goals and 17 points in twelve games as the Wheat Kings moved back to within striking distance of top spot in the WHL's Eastern Conference with nine wins.

Brandon's first selection in last summer's Canadian Hockey League Import Draft, Rajala was a member of the Finnish National Junior Team for the second straight season at the World Junior Hockey Championships in Saskatchewan.

In addition to the WJHC, Rajala led Finland to a bronze medal at last year's World Under 18 Hockey Championships in Fargo, North Dakota. Rajala led the tournament with ten goals and 19 points and broke the previous record held by Russia's Alex Ovechkin.
