LoRegio — Blame Mother Nature for problems with the bridge

Story:

What we learned this past week or so . . .

It seems BP will pay for the Gulf oil spill, but no one wants to take the blame. Wonder if the fear of lawsuits has anything to do with that?

Isn't it ironic how politicians are changing their stance since the spill happened?

The Selinger government is topping up the funding to finish the Eighteenth Street bridges.

The budget has doubled since construction started. Some are blaming the fish in the Assiniboine River and government regulations to protect them.

Why don't we blame Mother Nature? She's the one who put the river there.

Brandon won't spray for weeds. So, why is it that City Hall gets upset when residents don't cut boulevards around the city?

It is true, the grass is greener on the other side, and weed free.

The province will offer tax breaks for infertility treatments so women can get pregnant.

No word on whether or not education funding will be increased when those kids reach school age.

So called "experts" seem to be right only when it adversely affects us. When they predict gasoline prices will go up, they usually do.

Lately some have been predicting the price will go down, yet as of this writing, it hasn't happened.

Brandon police and RCMP have started their road safety program, which targets careless drivers and those under the influence.

What about those drivers who are so cautious that they are a menace to everyone else on the roads? They drive too slowly, take up two lanes and don't appear to know how to properly turn.

As one of the boys at the poker table put it: "Why are they rioting?"

They have three meals a day, TV and in some cases, better accommodation than some who aren't incarcerated. (We'll leave it at that.)

It's been two council meetings and not one complaint about the garbage collection system in Brandon. Oh that's right, some people are just dumping their garbage along the riverbank.

I'll bet some of them complain the loudest if someone drops a candy wrapper in their yard.

Why is it some politicians and would-be politicians have to comment on absolutely everything?

Sometimes it's better to keep your thoughts to yourself (I might even follow that piece of advice some day).

There is no truth to the rumour that a patio is being built on the roof of the new firehall so the staff can enjoy the ball games at the nearby diamonds.

Finally, our thought of the week: Do arsonists go to fire sales?
