LoRegio — Will those mosquitoes be real or fake?

Story:

Only in Canada: Ottawa spending $2 million to create a fake lake in the media centre for the G8 and G20 summits in Toronto.

No word on whether there will be real or fake mosquitoes.

The cost will be about a billion dollars to provide security, and scenery, for the summits, which will accomplish not much of anything.

But hey, we get to play host to a bunch of world leaders most of us will be hard pressed to name and get about one minute of air time in their home countries.

It would be cheaper to just buy travel ads on local TV to try to entice tourists in those countries to come here.

Isn’t it strange that the oil companies haven't jacked up the price of gasoline because of the BP disaster in the Gulf of Mexico?

For every other disaster, or even the hint of one, prices went up.

You get the impression that it would be a public relations disaster that companies are trying to avoid.

Brandon city hall is looking for suggestions on what to do with the Convergys building: Why not turn it into a city hall annex?

When council revisits issues, they can meet there. Perhaps a new room to discuss the issue will result in new ideas, or at least the old ideas will have a new background.

City hall will soon ask for your input into naming the new park at First and Rosser.

Might I suggest Battery Park, to remind us of the scrap yard that used to be there and hindered development to the point where we have the greenspace.

In a couple of months the fire department moves into its new headquarters.

Not sure how they'll be moving the furniture and files but if you get a call wondering what you and your half ton are doing, drive away.

•

As of this writing, the police building tender hadn't been released.

What are the chances city hall changes its mind, and relocates the department to the vacant Convergys building so that the Victoria Avenue location could be sold for maximum profit?

Don't laugh. Stranger things have happened.

Think 15 years and firehall

Should city hall get into the housing business?

Outgoing councillor Doug Patterson thinks the city should develop the land it owns for affordable housing.

Sounds like a good idea but define "affordable".

Will city hall spend $200,000 to sell a house for $150,000?

John LoRegio is news director of 880 CKLQ AM and 94.7 Star-FM.
