Brandon election

Fringe Candidates.

They come out of the woodwork when an election rolls around, no matter at what political level.

Some of them have good ideas while others, well, let’s just say they should have stayed in the woodwork.

But they deserve something from all of us... some respect. These candidates have the conviction to come forward and put their ideas out in the public. Some may laugh and ask, why are they doing this? They are doing it because they feel they can make a difference, and if nothing else they get their ideas on the table to be discussed, whether good, bad or flaky.

That’s a lot more than we can say about people who take shots anonymously at others for putting themselves out in the public.

Perhaps if some of these “anonymous” types came out in the open, the city’s problems, or for that matter, the problems at the provincial level would have been, or could be, solved.

So think about it. You have a couple of months to file your nomination papers at city hall for council or mayor.

When I last talked to a government rep about the opening of the second 18th street bridge, I was told it would be sometime in the fall.| The year wasn’t specified but I am assuming it will be 2010.

However, when it comes to government, don’t assume anything.
Getting away from it all, ain’t exactly so.

Riding Mountain National Park reports weekend traffic at the south gate is heavier this summer than it has been in two decades.
As one of the boys at the poker table put it, it’s more relaxing staying home... no traffic in the driveway... no cottage chores that have to get done and more importantly, most of the time the neighbours are gone for the weekend so the ‘hood is nice and quiet.
What am I going to do? How am I going to keep in touch with everyone?

That was the reaction of a friend to the new law that says you can’t use your hand held electronic device when driving (i.e. cellphone or portable games).

Since this person is middle age and can remember the world BC ( before cells) there was a gentle reminder about a time when you drove a vehicle, you actually drove the vehicle and the only distractions were passengers, other motorists or pedestrians.

To some driving was a well-needed solitude from the family, work or whatever... no ringing cell worry about.
