Bring on the barley sandwiches

Some questions shouldn’t be asked by certain people. Here is a sample of some of them heard recently:

“The city has too many road detours..Why are they doing all the street repairs at the same time?”

This from the same person who, a few weeks ago, was complaining about the streets needing repairs.

“There are too many people using Spruce Woods ( provincial park). They should charge to get in again.”

This from a person who complains the government takes too much money out of our pockets. This is the same government that dropped the admission fees so more people can use the parks.

“They’re going to close down the new bridge so that the finishing touches can be put on it when the second bridge is complete. What’s wrong with it now?”

This from a chronic complainer who will undoubtedly ask why the curbs and stripes weren’t done.

There were a few Brandonites who asked, “ Why are the cops raiding homes and scaring the neighbourhood?”
These are the same folks who ask why the cops aren’t doing anything about crime....

“There’s nothing to do in Westman?”

This from the same person who complains about the fair being the same thing every year, but will complain the loudest at the lack of volunteers who are needed to keep the fair going.

Ask your favourite whiner if they have ever volunteered to help a civic endeavour... chances are they’ll say “that’s why the town has paid employees”

“Why is the Trans Canada being fixed now?”

Yes believe it or not, this question has been asked and not by a new arrival to the country.

Some questions shouldn’t be said out loud, but I will endeavour to answer this one.

I guess the simple answer would be, work is being done now because the highway contractors prefer to spend their winters in warmer climates.

Here are more questions recently overheard, and the editor and I will let you come up with your own answers
“Why isn’t there a summer professional hockey league?”

“If Carberry can get a casino, why can’t Brandon?

“If a passenger plane lands in Brandon, will the Mayor declare it a civic holiday?”

“If Neepawa has a LilyFest, why can’t the Wheat City have a WheatFest? ( I think the favourite appetizer would be barley sandwiches)

“Who’s buying all those expensive new homes?”
