Knights ready for best of the west

The first eight teams for the Baseball Canada Pee Wee AAA Western Championship have been determined.

The Brandon Knights were already in the Championship as the host team but walked in the front door thanks to a 10-2 victory over the Winnipeg South Chiefs in the final of the Baseball Manitoba Pee Wee AAA Championship.

It was the Knights’ second consecutive provincial title.

“We have as solid a team because we’re not one or two dimensional,” says Knights’ coach Brad Schoonbaert, “We hit the ball, we have great pitching and we are as good as anyone defensively as well.”
As Manitoba runners-up, the Chiefs also qualified for the Westerns while Midwest placed third and will be the province’s third representative.

Three teams will be in Brandon from Saskatchewan including the provincial champion Saskatoon Braves. Second place Rigina White Sox and third place Saskatoon Blue Jays will also travel to Brandon.
The Spruce Grove White Sox and Edmonton Cardinals will represent Alberta.

The final two teams for the 10-team Baseball Canada Pee Wee Western Championship will be determined this weekend when the British Columbia Provincial Championship is held in Kamloops.
The Baseball Canada Pee Wee Western Championship will take place from August 19-22 at Simplot Millennium Park in Brandon.
