Unclaimed stolen bikes auctioned off by Kiwanis

The Kiwanis Club of Brandon will be hosting another bicycle action Saturday Aug. 21, in the Keystone Centre’s Manitoba Room.

Every year, hundreds of stolen bicycles are recovered by the Brandon Police Service, but few are claimed by their owners.

After the claim period has expired, these left over bicycles are given to the Kiwanis Club of Brandon, who store them until they are auctioned off.

Proceeds of the auction are used by the Kiwanis Club of Brandon to help children in the Brandon area through such programs as the Learn not to Burn Program, Babysitter’s Safety Courses, Y Kids Club and the Sun Fund for Kids.
Bicycles can be viewed starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 21, and the auction will begin at 10 a.m.

The Kiwanis Club of Brandon would also like to express their appreciation to the City of Brandon Police Service, People’s Market Place, who store the bicycles during the claim period, and the Kullberg’s Warehouse, who store the bicycles after the claim period has expired until they are auctioned off, and everyone who has donated a bicycle.
