As a special event during Manitoba’s Homecoming 2010, nine musicians either born or trained in Brandon will return to the city to give five evening concerts during the week of August 23 through 27.
The concerts will be held in the Lorne Watson Recital Hall at Brandon University’s School of Music.
Ed Bach joins Barrie Barrington to open the week with a concert of virtuoso trumpet and piano selections.
Bach will include a selection of numbers from his most recent disc of gospel jazz.
Tuesday’s concert features two of Canada’s finest young vocalists, James McLennan, tenor and Doug MacNaughton, baritone.
Already in demand by international producers, they will present an evening of solos and duets from both the operatic and popular repertoire. Kara Dixon will be the collaborative artist.
Violist Greg Hay, cellist Laura Jones, and violinist Velma Ko will join forces to present an evening of solos, duets, and trios with collaborative pianist Donna Laube on Wednesday evening. Sergei Saratovsky flies in from Moscow on Thursday to play a program of piano repertoire spanning several centuries.
The series ends Friday evening with a stunningly varied program by Brandon-born Janet Field-Moase. Janet will trace the evolution of vocal music across the last hundred years, and her audience will find it difficult to avoid joining in the many favourites.
Janet’s sister Susan will contribute several numbers, and Kara Dixon will provide the accompaniments.
