Tonight in Prime Time

Ridgefest rocks on

Despite Mother Nature’s attempt to foil the event, Ridgefest continues to rock on! This Friday, July 15th and Saturday, July 16th Ridgefest has moved indoors for the first time ever.
Although the pre party and after party has been hosted by The 40 since the second year of the festival, this is the first time the event in its entirety will be at the venue. Originally the plan was to move the local rock concert from the home graciously provided by Planet Kia for the past 6 years, to a bigger stage out in Turtle Crossing. Unfortunately the Assiniboine had other plans so like the troopers they are, organizers Frank McGwire and Lyall McDermid came up with a perfect solution, moving the event to The 40.
McGwire explains the generosity of The 40. “Heidi and the staff have embraced us with open arms. They’re always there for the local music scene. Thanks to The 40, this festival will continue to grow in leaps and bounds in the coming years”.
Even with the water flowing and location shift, Ridgefest continues to deliver great music along with some extra treats. Frank shares a few of the surprises in store for us.
“We’ll be doing a 50 / 50 draw each night. Also thanks to the ongoing support from Ted Good Music, Ridgefest attendees have a chance to win a guitar!
Along with draws, Saturday afternoon will feature a Matinee / Jam session with Ledd and Nuthin But Trouble.  NBT were previously booked for the weekend, but wanted to be a part of this celebration for the local music community anyway. Playing both gigs certainly earns them the MVP award this year.
Entertainment will also be provided on the deck by Sierra Hotel and the PKD Experience. Also watch for the Planet KIA Kittens for some extra goodies…”
Sounds like an incredible weekend and as usual it is for an equally important cause. All proceeds from Ridgefest 8 will be making its way to the Westman Women’s Resource Centre. Volunteers from the organization will also be at Ridgefest selling 50/50 tickets.
With plans of the move on hiatus this time around, I asked what Frank saw in the crystal ball when it came to Ridgefest 9?
“Hopefully Mother Nature will cooperate and we’ll be enjoying the musical talents of many more great local rock bands in the great outdoors. Mark, at Turtle Crossing, really wants to get it done out there next summer. As a hobbyist / campfire guitarist he’s committed to our event and like ours and would prefer to see it grow every year. We have big plans for RF9 that include a bigger stage, bigger sound system and we’ll be able to accommodate more bands from the Westman Area!”
Well even with it being indoors, Ridgefest still brings out the talent. The line up for the weekend looks like this:
