For the second straight season the Bobcats men’s volleyball team will face their first round playoff opponents on the road. After an intense series against the Manitoba Bisons last year in the Canada West Quarterfinals, the Bobcats will travel to Calgary to face the Dinos in this year’s post-season. The Bobcats are hoping to repeat some of last year’s success, and push it one step further. The ‘Cats placed second at last year’s national championship, and are hoping to improve on that this time around, but head coach Russ Paddock and his team know they have some work to do first. “Calgary is a place that we’ve always historically had success, and having already won a match there this year we feel pretty good about playing in that building,” says Paddock. “We’re used to these matches basically determining whether or not you play for two more weeks and go to the national championship, so it is in the back of our minds, but we know we really have to focus on each match, each set, and each play.” The first match of this Canada West quarterfinal will start at 7:00 p.m. (MST) at the University of Calgary’s Jack Simpson Gym. Saturday’s contest is also scheduled for 7:00 p.m., while Sunday’s game time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. (if necessary). Bobcat fans can follow the action online at www.canadawest.tv. The Bobcats women’s volleyball team has been officially eliminated from the playoffs after a tough last match against the Alberta Pandas Saturday night. The ‘Cats won Friday’s match 3-1 (25-22, 25-20, 23-25, 25-21), but then dropped Saturday’s contest 3-0 (25-21, 25-11, 27-25) to end the season at 9-11. The Bobcats share an identical record with the Thompson Rivers Wolfpack, but due to the tie-breaker formula, the Wolfpack will move on to the post-season. The match was the final time fifth-year’s Jaryn Ruether and Claire Willerton played for the Bobcats. Both Bobcat basketball teams also wrapped up their 2011-2012 seasons after dropping this weekend’s games on the road against the University of Alberta. These were the final games for fifth-year’s Jayla Bousquet of the women’s basketball team and Kyle Vince and Donovan Gayle of the men’s basketball team.
