Art Gallery of South Western Manitoba holding a Night in Rio fundraiser

By Chris Tataryn Journal/Brandon This Thursday, April 12, the Victoria Inn will come to life with the spirit of Rio as the AGSM holds their third annual fundraising evening, this year themed as a Night in Rio. “The night is a fundraising event for our art education programs for children,” said Jennifer Woodbury, Executive Director of the AGSM. “We are trying a different take on the usual gala dinners; it’s sort of a riff on dancing with the stars.” “We have asked some of the well-known couples in the community to take a few weeks of dance lessons at the Brandon School of Dance, and they will perform a few dances for us that night,” continued Woodbury. “The Brandon School of Dance and the Brazilian Dancers from the pavilion at the Winter Festival, Omulo Guanabara Capoeria Group Westman, will be filling out the rest of the evening’s entertainment, alongside some dj-ing from the Good Vibe Tribe, and even a short salsa dancing lesson for anyone interested.” The night also includes a silent auction, cocktails, and a dinner with a Latin flair courtesy of the Victoria Inn chefs. “We are going with a ‘Night in Rio’ theme thanks to our committee chair,” said Woodbury. “She is an extraordinarily vivacious woman with lots of desire to make it work, and being originally from Mexico she wanted to highlight some of her culture for all of us to share.” Tickets for the dinner are $75, with all proceeds going towards the AGSM’s Children’s Art Education program. For tickets call the gallery at 727-1036, while a limited number will also be sold at the door April 12 at 6 p.m.
