Students from the grade 12 Water Studies science course at Crocus Plains are joining grade 2 students from Waverly school to share information about water for weeks leading up to their big ‘Aqua Jam’ on May 23.

“The Aqua Jam is meant to be an informative day for grade 2 students entirely put together by our Water Studies students,” said Brooke Williams, Science Department teacher at Crocus.
“We are going to be sharing information on conserving water, pollution, and water safety. We did a larger presentation like this last year, but this year is going to be a much smaller, more intimate and interactive presentation.”

Last Thursday, the Waverly students got a chance to get to know the older Crocus Plains students during a fun day when they teamed up to make ‘whacky water hats,’ which were water-themed visors crafted with cardboard, construction paper, and lots of glitter.
This week, the two classes are heading to the Water Treatment Centre to further learn and educate, before finally holding the Aqua Jam next Wednesday.

“There will be eight fun and informative stations running throughout the day,” said Williams.
“We have giant tooth displays, we will be showing them how to make shower timers out of Ziploc bags, we will be learning about the water cycle while making crafts, and we will even be doing a geocaching hunt to find water. We’ll even have face painting, prizes and snacks for the kids. The grade 12 students are working hard to put together all the things they have learned in an easy and fun way for the younger kids to get involved.”

Water conservation is an important topic in Manitoba, and the Crocus Plains class is very excited to be able to share the concept with the younger generation.
