“We are accepting submissions until we run out of space, and we have room for about 100 pieces,” said Natalia Leedinskaia, curator of the AGSM.
“We already have quite a few local artists that know about the show who are collaborating on new pieces, but we are really encouraging works by people of all ages and skill levels.”
The exhibition is set to take place in the Community Gallery from September 21 until November 10 in conjunction with the 2012 Culture Days.
“In keeping with the collaborative and interdisciplinary spirit of Culture Days, we invite submissions of art pieces made by teams of two or more creators; friends working together, family projects, office team building exercises that led to beautiful things, community groups making things, poets with artists, writers with illustrators, dancers with photographers or painters, farmers with sculptors, and all other imaginable forms of collaborative making,” said Lebedinskaia.
“These works can transcend disciplines and be in any media, as long as they can be displayed on the walls of the gallery, or on plinths.”
Submissions are asked to be a maximum size of 4’x4’, and people are asked to not submit more than three separate pieces.
“We’ve had a few galleries with this style of submission; we did something similar for the National Youth Arts week,” said Lebedinskaia.
“It works really well; it’s a diplomatic way of organization. We put up everything we receive, and it lets people submit their work without having an entire exhibition to fill themselves.”
Pieces can be submitted through the first two weeks of September, until September 12, by dropping them off at the AGSM during opening hours; 11:30 a.m. till 5:30 p.m. Tuesday to Friday, open Thursday evenings until 9:00 p.m.
If you are not sure your collaboration qualifies for the exhibition, or if you have an idea you would like to discuss, contact Natalia Lebedinskaia at curator@agsm.ca or 727-1036.
