March 8: Theft, weapons charges
A 26-year-old Brandon woman is facing charges of theft under $5000 after items were stolen from a business on the 1400 block of Princess Avenue on Dec. 14, 2018 and Jan. 21 of this year. A total of $439 worth of merchandise was reported stolen and the woman was identified with the help of surveillance video. The woman was arrested Friday and will face two counts of theft in court in April.
A member of the Brandon Police Service stopped vehicle with inactive license plates at about 6 p.m. Friday. The vehicle collided with a garbage dumpster while being pulled over. The 40-year-old Portage la Prairie man driving the vehicle did not have a valid driver's license and was wanted on an arrest warrant. He taken into custody on the warrant, issued several Highway Traffic Act offence notices and was scheduled to appear in court on Saturday. A passenger in the vehicle, a 39-year-old Brandon woman was also arrested and held for a Saturday court appearance after it was determined she was wanted for failing to appear for fingerprints and failing to appear in court. A second passenger was found to have a telescopic baton in his possession and was in breach of an probationary order for communicating with a woman. The 38-year-old Brandon man was also charged for possession of a dangerous weapon.
Also through the day, six men were arrested on outstanding warrants and released pending scheduled court dates, and one person was taken into custody for breach of the peace.
March 9: Domestic assault, drug charges
BPS officers were called to the Village Drive area at about 11:30 a.m. Saturday in relation to a complainant who said her ex-boyfriend was waiting for her outside her home. Upon arrival, police learned that the man had previously assaulted the woman by striking and biting her. The 26-year-old Brandon man was arrested on charges of domestic assault and will appear in court on April 8.
Just after 10 p.m., BPS members observed a suspicious vehicle with inactive license plates being driven by a 36-year-old woman. As the driver attempted to locate her driver's license, officers noted a vial containing what appeared to be cocaine. A male passenger in the care was then checked and found to be in breach of a court-ordered curfew. The man and the woman were arrested at the scene. After further investigation, police officers found a case containing methamphetamines. The woman was arrested for possession of cocaine and meth and will appear in Brandon Court on May 16. The passenter, a 33-year-old man, was arrested for breach of curfew and possession of meth. He was held at the Brandon Correctional Centre for a court appearance the following day.
March 10: Stolen vehicle, theft and break and enter
Early Sunday morning, BPS members spotted a blue, 2004 Dodge Dakota truck that had been reported stolen by Souris RCMP. The vehicle, which was not plated at the time, was found running on the 800 block of 9th Street with a woman in the driver's seat. The 43-year-old Rapid City resident was arrested for possessing a stolen vehicle and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, the latter coming from a can of bear spray located beside her purse. The woman was released with an court appearance scheduled for April 29.
Brandon police recieved a complaint of a theft from a business on the 1000 block of Victoria Avenue on Jan. 29. The suspect was identified and officers located and charged a 30-year-old Brandon man in relation to the incident. He was scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
BPS members responded to a complaint of two individuals entering a business and stealing items on the same block at about 10:45 a.m. Sunday. Officers located a 31-year-old Brandon man and a 34-year-old male of no fixed addressed a short time later. Both were highly intoxicated and held at the BCC. They will appear in court on May 6.
About two hours later, a homeowner on the 400 block of 4th Street reported a number of tools were stolen from a garage on his premises sometime after Feb. 23.
Following a complaint of a theft from a business in the Corral Centre on Saturday, officers located and arrested a 31-year-old Brandon man. He was released with an April 29 court date.
