The Wheat City Whiskey Jacks baseball club’s first-ever general manager is an experienced entrepreneur, radio host and community events manager from Brandon.
On March 26, the Expedition League’s newest franchise announced that Ray Walker would be the team’s GM. Walker is an experienced manager in both the business and sporting industries after owning a radio station and working as an assistant general manager in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. His resume also includes experience in sales and marketing, broadcasting, community events management and concert promotion.
“The opportunity to help launch this team for Brandon and Westman is an absolute thrill,” Walker said in a press release from the team. “The Whiskey Jacks are in a perfect position to succeed with great partners as we provide incredible collegiate baseball talent and nonstop fun and entertainment for our fans all summer long at Andrews Field.”
Although born in Winnipeg, Walker is a long-time resident of Brandon. Expedition League president Steve Wagner said Walker’s experience and close ties to the community are a great fit for the Whiskey Jacks.
“We’re very blessed to have Ray join us for our inaugural season of Whiskey Jacks baseball in the Wheat City,” Wagner said. “Ray brings impressive experience to this role and his enthusiasm and excitement for the Whiskey Jacks, our corporate partners, our fans and the community is contagious.”
The Whiskey Jacks will make their Expedition League regular season debut versus the Souris Valley Sabre Dogs in Minot, ND on May 24 and 25. Their home opener is scheduled to take place May 28 against the same team.
