Former Brandon Wheat King fan-favorite Jordan Tootoo returned to the city on Oct. 19 to announce his retirement from professional hockey. Tootoo, who played with Brandon from 1999 to 2003, played 13 seasons in the National Hockey League after being drafted by the Nashville Predators in 2001. Over his 723-game career, he also worked with the Detroit Red Wing, New Jersey Devil and Chicago Blackhawk organizations. Now a resident of Kelowna, B.C. with a family that includes two young daughters, Tootoo plans to work in the field of mental health and suicide prevention in Indigenous communities.
